Things that get done when I don't pour myself that first glass of wine at 6 or 7pm for a few consecutive days are pretty dramatically different than the alternative. The house gets straightened throughout the day, despite the fact that it's an endless cycle of picking up the same toys and putting them in the same bins 36 times per hour. Pots and pans get washed after using them, instead of dragging my way through them right after the boys go to bed. The house gets vacuumed. I run all my errands when they need to be done, not when I finally get around to it. Legal paperwork and affidavits get completed and brought to the post office, in addition to the mistaken parking ticket that needs disputing. I get to bed at a much earlier hour instead of staying up watching junky tv and trolling the internet waiting to be entertained.
Things that DON'T get done are equally a plenty. I don't lose my temper quite as quickly with the boys because I'm not overly exhausted. I don't send stupid texts and status updates at stupid hours. I don't inbox or email people with unsolicited emotional rants or stupid ideas. And I don't leave the sink full of pots and pans that I was sure I'd get to after the boys go to bed.
I don't blog as much... I'm actually DOING things during the minutes and or hours that I'm not at the boy's ever beckoning calls and needs, instead of sitting and staring at the computer.
Despite the fact that I've got the sore throat and sinus congestion that the boys have had for the past week, I feel better and more energetic as a result of eating better, and not having any alcohol in my system. So the detox goes on, and I'm going to keep feeling better and doing better in all areas, I hope.
Now, with that said, it is definitely lonelier at night without my good friend pinot grigio keeping me company and entertained. I'm acutely aware that I'm alone. Sure, it's nice to be able to watch what I want on tv at night after every thing's been done, but there's still that empty bored feeling of not having someone to do it all with.
