I'm nervous about my money (again) this month. Ever since John broke the news to me that he was taking over another bar as owner, I've been just waiting for him to make a move and steal the money from the sale of our last bar. The money that I depend on to live from month to month. According to him, the previous owner of the new place didn't ask for any payment up front and they worked out a monthly payment plan. Sounds like a bunch of bullshit to me. So I've been assuming that he is scheming some kind of plan to take the monthly money from me.
Yesterday was the 15th of the month. The 15th is the day that John's former partner puts the check in the mail. It then gets delivered to John's address within a day or two. From that point, John deposits a portion of it into my account. Around 6pm yesterday I received a text from him, telling me that the check did not arrive yet, so I shouldn't start yelling at him and getting all nasty. This was completely out of left field. I texted him back: "Why are you sending this to me now? It's the 15th, of course the check didn't arrive, he just mailed it today. You BETTER NOT be up to something! Are you trying to buy time because you're planning on NOT giving me the money???" And the texts continued back and forth. I called him sketchy, he accused me of only being negative and accusing him of wrong doings.
So, basically, I'm thinking that one of two things is going on here. 1. He sold the note from the bar sale in order to buy the new place. ("note" being the term used for the business agreement between John and his former partner detailing the monthly checks) When he first sold the bar, he scrambled desperately to find someone to buy the note from him. He wanted to get a lump sum payment from someone and in exchange, sacrifice a certain percentage of the whole amount. I strongly disagreed with this idea and it was something we argued about a lot when we were still together. OR, 2. He needed a small amount of capital this month to get the ball rolling on fixing up the bar and plans on acting like he never got the check. He would absolutely do either one of these things. Both "plans" are exactly his m.o. Even knowing full well that he will get caught (by me), he would still do one of these things and buy time by lying to me so that he can get what he wants. But the dumbass panicked and jumped the gun. He started his plan a day early. If his plan was going to work, he should have waited until today, the 16th, to tell me the check didn't come yet. And now I'm on to him.
I guess I'll know in a few days. And yes, I will have him arrested if he has done either of these two things.
