I keep trying to dig deep down deep for something to write about the past year and Noreen. Without exagerration, she has shown up in just about every dream I've had since she passed.
Sometimes she is there, but more often than not, it's me and my boys remembering her and doing some ritualistic things in her honor. She is always there, on my mind.. and the boys minds, I'm sure. The past year we have spent most every weekend at her house. Some nights she was there. Others, she was in the hospital, but the closeness remained regardless of the physicall whereabouts.
These dreams that I've been having since her passing are pretty much based in reality. My 4 year old has asked a few times if we could send balloons up to Heaven for Noreen, and so of course, I have abliged. When the boys are blowing bubbles in the back, they both say that the really high ones are going to Heaven to make Aunt Noreen happy.
A year or so ago, my (now) 4 year old and I were on line at the store when he found a coin on the ground. He picked it up and asked where it came from. "Pennies from Heaven!" I told him. This was shortly after my own Grandmother passed away, so he exclaimed "Thanks Great Grandma!!!" Like it was the most natural thing in the world.
One evening last week, when the whole family was gathered at Noreen's house between wakes, he found a nickel on the floor under Noreen's counter. He held it up excitedly and said, "Great Grandma!!! . . he paused.. oooor Aunt Reen???" So serious, he was. I looked at the nickel. Oh boy! It's from Aunt Noreen! Of course it is! She's thinking of you. This is her kitchen after all! Hey Reen, we're thinking of you too! and my little man repeated the sentiment, "Thanks for the money Aunt Reen! We're thinking of you toooooo!"
