Kizmet

I can't even remember how long it's been since posting here..  I feel like I've been going at full speed for weeks now!  I finished my first semester of my "come back" with an A in Ethics. Yay!  I had about a week off before my summer semester began yesterday.  General Biology.  It's normally a 5 month class, but since it's summer session, we've got to cover all that material in just 2 months.  To say that I'm feeling overwhelmed is a huge understatement.
To make things just a little more scary and chaotic, I had to drop my boys off at daycare for the first time ever yesterday.  We were lucky enough to get into the children's program at my college, based on the luck of the draw.  I didn't feel so lucky yesterday as I left my two babies, crying, for 6 hours.  It was horrible.  I fucking hated it.
My first class was clear across campus from the children's center- about a 15 minute walk-- and yes, of course, it was pouring rain.  I was sort of grateful for the rain though.  As I walked into my class, 5 minutes late and soaking wet, I convinced myself that the rain on my face and in my hair helped to disguise my tears.
My lab teacher looked young.  REALLY young.  And seemed more nervous than me or anyone else in the room.  She successfully confused every one of us about very simple metric system conversions and basic microscope terms..  We left the lab and headed to the next building for our lecture.  While we waited for the lecture to begin, we all vented about what a disaster the lab professor was, and that she must be new at teaching because she seemed so utterly nerve wracked.
Luckily, the lecture professor seems great-- a huge personality, very smart and funny and charismatic.  I think he will likely turn out to be our life savers who might straighten out some of the craziness that the lab professor confuses us with.
Today, I was taking some of this week's old newspapers to the back porch to put in the recycle bin.  A random picture caught my eye.  I looked at a picture of a mother and daughter, both in caps and gowns.  They'd both just graduated college together last week.  The mother, with her bachelor's degree in political science, the daughter with her master's degree in biology.  Oh fuck.  THAT'S my lab professor!  She graduated college last week.. and THIS is her first job.  That's just super.
How weird that I just happened to look at that picture, one day after first meeting this girl.  Like I was MEANT to see it.
Seriously, I can't make this stuff up.
